App of the Week: Headspace

I never understood the motivation behind meditating. To me, it always seemed pointless and a waste of time. Who wants to just sit there and think about nothing?

Then, in an effort to better deal with the stresses of this year, I decided to give in and try it out.

Not knowing where to start, I browsed through the app store to see what I can find, and I eventually came across Headspace. This app is the ultimate meditation guide, and it’s why it was selected as this week’s “App of the Week.”

Beginning was tough. I could not get my head to stop racing with thoughts. Fortunately, the app’s hosts have buttery-smooth English accents that not only motivated me to keep going but also relaxed and eased me into it.

After being patient for about two weeks, I finally began to see improvements. I could maintain my focus much better than before, and after finishing a meditation session, I genuinely felt at ease. The app features several dedicated courses that focuses your meditations on specific things, including balance, stress, appreciation, and a lot more. It also has yoga sessions and even a before-bed function that plays soothing sounds to help you fall asleep.

I’m proud to announce that since starting in June, I’ve totaled over 600 minutes of meditation time (that’s over 10 hours)! To my surprise, just like with avocados, something I once avoided has become something I really enjoy.
